Lipring Maintenance

Targeted gunning maintenance enables easy scull removal. Our special mouth gunning mixes create an optimal separating layer between the converter lipring and slagging. Time-consuming cleaning tasks are eliminated.

WEERULIN’s lipring mixes have excellent adhesive properties, even on bare steel. The scull can be easily removed. The prerequisite is the correct gunning technique, which we accompany with modern machinery and competent service.

Interior Maintenance

Interior gunning maintenance depends on the converter's operating mode. With preventive gunning maintenance, regular gunning is applied throughout the entire campaign to achieve high durability. The gunning mixes for this application are cost-optimized and designed for higher consumption. 

Alternatively, we use the highest quality magnesia mixes specifically applied toward the end of the converter's campaign to effectively reduce wear in critical areas like the tap hole.

Tap Hole Maintenance

To fill the tunnel between the lining and the tap hole pipe, we use a special lightweight, high-magnesia filling mass. The durability of our maintenance mass is ideally matching to the lifespan of the tap hole installations. The product is easy to work with and ensures tap hole security throughout the converter's campaign.

Repair Mixes / Scrap Impact

In some converter areas with accelerated wear, such as the scrap impact zone, self-flowing repair mixes are used. These are applied using BigBags. They begin to flow due to the heat and coat the wear areas with high-grade refractory material. Compared to gunning repairs, this offers time advantages and longer durability. 

A specially developed high-grade concrete applied with a forced mixer regularly achieves durability of 80 heats or more in the scrap impact area.

Backfill Materials

The refractory layer between the wear lining and the permanent lining should prevent infiltration and backflow. Our backfill masses, based on magnesia or alumina, are easy to manually apply and are set by operational heat. A ceramic protective layer forms on the hot face, while the material behind remains insulating. For layer thicknesses of 40 mm and more, the material can be preserved and reused.

Machine Technology

In the converter, choosing the right machine technology is crucial. Quick changes between the refractory product qualities increase converter availability. Our multi-chamber system technology allows the simultaneous use of different refractory masses for mouth, tap hole, and trunion maintenance.

Shooters are essential for mobility and flexibility in converter maintenance. To enable use even on tight converter platforms at an attractive price, we have developed highly mobile concepts in collaboration with skilled machine manufacturers, such as shooters based on forklift chassis.
