Synthetic slags
Due to its high sulphur-solubility a calcium-aluminate slag is also well-suited for catching slag in the steel ladle. Its low humidity content makes the slag a good choice in the ladle furnace and other situations, where the usual calcium-fluorspar slag does not provide the required low hydrogen content in the steel.
Our FOR MET P series is especially designed for the ladle metallurgy, with a calcium-aluminate slag that allows strict analyses when defining the aluminium content in the steel. the slag has an extremely low oxygen potential. melting-loss of the aluminium from the steel cast occurs continuously and slowly, so with FOR MET P slag, even low aluminium content can be defined very precisely.
Calcium-aluminate slags are very similar to both alumina saturation and calcium saturation, but they cause less corrosion to the ladle lining - when well-fused alumina or dolomite - than the common calcium-fluorspar slags.
FOR MET P calcium-aluminate collecting slags reach a high desulphurization rate and extinguish oxydic impurities. In combination with calcium-silicate slags our FOR MET P calcium-aluminate slags serve as easy-melt AI2O3 carrier slag in the production of 'super-clean-steel' grades.
The advantages of FOR MET P collecting slags are:
- Low humidity
- Precise definition of Al-content possible
- No corrosion with alkalic pan linings
- High desulpurization rate
