When designing the perfect maintenance programme for the converter, selecting the most appropriate machine technology is crucial. The usual target is to obtain better, easier working conditions, shorter maintenance intervals, higher converter availabilities and cost reduction, when considering the concept as a whole. The right combination of material storage, gunning machinery technology and mobile manipulators is essential. Quick changes between different grades and qualities often lead to hold-ups in the converter availability. For such cases WEERULIN uses a multi-chamber technology, this allows three different refractory mixes - for example spout maintenance, peg maintenance, tapping maintenance - to use a single gunning machine.

Moveable manipulators or 'shooters' can have a decisive influence on the mobility and flexibility in converter maintenance. However, sometimes narrow space or high investment costs can rule out the use of common shooters. They often carry water tanks and - in respect to their size and due to their chain drive - look a bit like a military tank. To enable the use of modern shooter technology even on narrow converter platforms at attractive prices, we have developed appropriate concepts in cooperation with a skilled machinery manufacturer, such as a mobile manipulator based on fork lift running gear.
